A record that stayed for more than 17 years was finally mellowed on New Year's Day up 2014. Corey Anderson pummeled the West Indies bowlers to score the speediest ODI century, off just 36 balls, eclipsing the record of 37 set by a 16-year-old Shahid Afridi in 1996. Anderson finished unbeaten on 131 and such was his violence that he even deciphered how to rule Jesse Ryder, who motored to the sixth speediest ODI century ever. The pair regulated New Zealand to a barely persuading 283 in just 21 overs.
Anderson who completed not out 131 took 36 deliveries to achieve his century, whipping the past record set by Shahid Afridi, who required 37 balls to achieve three figures playing for Pakistan against Sri Lanka in 1996.
